Le Premier ministre éthiopien, Abiy Ahmed, a affirmé que l’Éthiopie pourrait accueillir la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations (CAN) avec la construction de quelques stades supplémentaires.
Cette déclaration a été faite lors de la clôture de la Semaine de la mode africaine Shenen, à Addis-Abeba.
Déjà en avril, le ministre de la Culture et des Sports, Kejela Merdasa, avait présenté des projets ambitieux qui permettraient à l’Éthiopie de candidater pour la CAN 2029 ou 2031. Il a souligné la nécessité de disposer d’au moins six stades conformes aux normes de la CAF.
Bien que l’équipe nationale soit actuellement contrainte de jouer à l’étranger, des efforts sont en cours pour construire et moderniser les infrastructures. L’Éthiopie a déjà accueilli la CAN en 1962, 1968 et 1976.
