L’Inde et le Canada ont chacun expulsé lundi leur ambassadeur ainsi que cinq autres diplomates de haut rang, après que New Delhi a annoncé que son envoyé figurait parmi les « personnes d’intérêt » dans l’enquête sur l’assassinat du dirigeant séparatiste sikh Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Initialement, l’Inde avait déclaré retirer ses six diplomates du Canada, mais Ottawa a confirmé qu’ils avaient été expulsés. La ministre canadienne des Affaires étrangères a précisé que cette décision était fondée sur des preuves nombreuses et claires, et a critiqué le manque de coopération de l’Inde, qui a refusé de lever l’immunité diplomatique de ses envoyés.
