Donald Trump, président élu, a annoncé le 12 novembre qu’Elon Musk et Vivek Ramaswamy seront à la tête d’un nouveau ministère de l’« efficacité gouvernementale ». Musk, l’homme le plus riche du monde, et Ramaswamy, un homme d’affaires républicain, auront pour mission de réduire la bureaucratie, les régulations excessives, les dépenses inutiles, et de restructurer les agences fédérales. Trump a qualifié leur mission de « Projet Manhattan de notre temps », en référence au programme de recherche de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Musk, qui a investi plus de 100 millions de dollars dans la campagne de Trump, et Ramaswamy pourraient réduire de 2.000 milliards de dollars le budget fédéral, actuellement entre 6.500 et 7.000 milliards de dollars. Trump leur a donné jusqu’au 4 juillet 2026 pour mettre en place un « plus petit gouvernement » en l’honneur du 250e anniversaire de la Déclaration d’Indépendance.
Un ministère nommé « Doge »
Le nouveau ministère, appelé en anglais « Department of Government Efficiency » (Doge), fait référence à une chienne japonaise de race shiba inu, Kabosu, connue sur Internet pour avoir inspiré de nombreux mèmes. Kabosu est aussi l’emblème du dogecoin, une cryptomonnaie qu’Elon Musk a adoptée en 2021. Musk avait annoncé un projet spatial financé en dogecoin et a brièvement utilisé l’icône du Doge comme logo de Twitter, qu’il a racheté et renommé X.
Trump, qui a récemment battu Kamala Harris à la présidentielle, avance rapidement pour nommer ses alliés à des postes clés de son administration.
